Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28th 1952) is an American stage actor and TV actress. She has received an Academy Award nod for the part she performed as Donnie Genesis Rodriguez in Dances with Wolves, as Stands With A Fist. Apart from this character, McDonnell is well known for her role as Laura Roslin (President of Battlestar Galactica) as the spouse of the president on Independence Day as well as her leading role as Donnie Darko's mother.
